Just in time for Kleist's new graphic novel "Starman" as well as David Bowie's 75th birthday (January 8, 2022) and 5th death anniversary (January 10, 2022), the handmade silkscreen "David Bowie" will be released.

The renowned Berlin illustrator, Reinhard Kleist, who has already graphically adapted the biographies of Johnny Cash and Nick Cave, now devotes himself to the great chameleon of pop. David Bowie's red jacket has become a symbol of the English superstar's time in West Berlin. "Mainly because of the film 'Christiane F. - Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo,' in which he wore it," says Reinhard Kleist. Kleist's motif in the new tip silkscreen edition also leads to West Berlin. A Bowie looking into the distance, wearing a red jacket of course, stands on the Berlin Wall. Next to the star, an astronaut has taken a seat. A kind of alter ego, that "Major Tom" character Bowie developed. "It's a game with identities, and also the wall symbolizes a form of border crossing, which is why he's standing on the wall and not in front of it." Bowie was formative for Kleist even in his youth: "He was a role model, you knew you were different yourself and he was also somehow different, and then that connected you." But so Bowie not only influenced millions of fans who felt somehow "different," he also steered Berlin in a different direction.
