Screen Print 'Joseph Beuys' by Jakob Hinrichs
Joseph Beuys revolutionised the art world in the second half of the 20th century. On 12 May 2021, the extraordinary artist would have turned 100. To mark this anniversary, the Berlin illustrator and comic artist Jakob Hinrichs created this screen print exclusively for tipBerlin. Joseph Beuys has fascinated him for many years. With this silkscreen edition, Hinrichs playfully decodes the imagery of Joseph Beuys: "For the tip print, I tried to break down his visuality into its individual parts, to understand his materials as ingredients that, in combination, create something new." At the same time, the illustrator celebrates Beuys' disruptive power of reinterpretation.
Jakob Hinrichs studied illustration at the UdK Berlin (2004). He now lives and works in Berlin as an independent illustrator and comic artist for international publications such as the New York Times, Boston Globe, The Guardian and many others. His acclaimed graphic novel debut, an adaptation of Arthur Schnitzler's Traumnovelle, was published in 2012 and has been translated into several languages.
